In Honour of Jim Tovey

We are very saddened by the passing of Jim Tovey, an LAC board member, city councillor, community builder, and a champion for our city. Jim was creative, a big thinker, and a dreamer who worked tirelessly to make his dreams come true. As a musician, and a lover of arts and culture, he was a strong supporter and contributor to making the Living Arts Centre a vibrant hub of arts and creativity. His tireless commitment and passion made him a true ambassador for the Centre.

In his seven short years as councillor Jim accomplished more than most do in a lifetime. He was a community builder whose legacy will live on through the growth and redevelopment of the waterfront, the revitalization of Port Credit, and the development of the Lakeview Lands. Jim was an ardent defender of the Great Lakes and led the charge to protect the waterfront and waterways for future generations. He was a committed member of the Mississauga community his entire life, being named the Mississauga Citizen of the Year in 2009. In 2012 he received the Queens Jubilee Medal for his work as a private citizen.

Jim loved his city and community; always working to make it better.

We will all dearly miss his smile, his sense of humour, and his passion for life.

On behalf of the board of directors, staff and volunteers of the Living Arts Centre we offer our deepest condolences to Jim’s wife Lee, son Daniel and his many loved ones, his colleagues, constituents, and friends.
