When we think of comics, our thoughts often turn towards the superheroes and the strip cartoons of the mainstream market, designed for kids. But an alternative and independent market has been rising for the past 25 years, turning comics into an art form, designed not only for kids but also for young adults and adults. Graphic novels, ‘zines and alternative comics explore the complexities of real life, pushing boundaries and transforming low art into literature. The artists in this exhibition, from Mississauga and Toronto, have published their works independently and use the comic format for personal creativity and expression.
