Living Arts Centre

Common Language

Resident Artist Exhibition
February 28 - April 11, 2017
Opening reception: March 9, 2017 | 7:00 - 9:00pm

As Canada celebrates 150 years, many agree that one of the country's great strengths is its diversity - of people, cultures, and languages. Yet the challenge can be to bridge differences and reveal the perspectives of other. Art and craft can function as a common language. The Living Arts Centre’s Resident Artists create contemporary art and craft in a wide variety of media. Each artist is informed by different experiences and aesthetic concerns. Some are inspired by the land itself, as materials or as a source for colour and texture. Others reflect on memory, traditions and history – both their own and from other cultures. In creating and exhibiting these works, the personal can become universal, telling stories and connecting us with a common language.
