Walk the Art

Water is critical for the health and well-being of our planet. Humans currently utilize over half of the world’s accessible freshwater and it is estimated that seven billion people may be faced with water scarcity by the middle of the 21st Century. This exhibition gives student artists from the Peel Region the opportunity to examine the increasingly critical situation of the global water supply. Working in a wide range of art media, these student-activists confront issues of inequitable distribution and the need for eco-conscious decision-making across communities.

Shift

January 29  - March 20, 2011
In this exhibition, contemporary Chinese artists Fei Jun, Phoebe Lo, Yangyang Pan and Burigude Zhang muse on the notion of transitional space. Working in various facets of abstraction, these artists confront the social and physical boundaries that influence how we perceive our surroundings. Through sculpture, photography, painting and video installation, SHIFT reflects on the desire to sustain momentum within a complex global culture.

SHIFT celebrates the unresolved. It is a  broad examination of the concept of transition that engages the viewer on both conscious and unconscious levels. As a diverse collection of media, this showcase represents the combination of tradition and innovation that typifies cross-cultural practices today.

This diverse group uses a variety of photographic techniques and interpretive devices to craft a compelling statement on the complex nature of human relationships.

Exhibiting a diversity of painting methods, the AGF members draw from the history of the art form, using its wealth of visual languages to better describe the complexities of the human psyche.
