All performances are 60 to 70 minutes in length unless otherwise noted, and include a question and answer period. Performances have been selected to enrich Ontario Curriculum objectives and have study guides with curriculum connected ideas for pre and post performance activities.

Crayon-like creatures light up the stage and your students’ imaginations through the re-telling of the classic fables The Ugly Duckling & The Tortoise and the Hare. Each story will feature classical and contemporary music ranging from jazz to pop. This performance fuses puppetry and the unique technology of electroluminescent wire. The Ugly Duckling & the Tortoise and the Hare is rich in the technologically dazzling visuals that today’s students relish, while integrating strong lessons in character education through the use of puppetry and live performance.

Medicine Bear - Kaha:wi Dance Theatre

Created for young audiences, Medicine Bear is a contemporary Aboriginal Dance performance inspired by two traditional Iroquois stories regarding the gift and knowledge of natural medicine. How the Bear Clan became known as the “Keeper of the Medicines” and how the young hunter discovered the gift of medicine are woven together in a playful manner. Rich in culture, Medicine Bear celebrates Iroquois song, dance, storytelling and imagery. Ask about our outreach workshops associated with this performance.

Engage your English and Literacy classes by connecting a novel study to live theatre with Literature to Life’s award winning adaptation of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and performed by Sorab Wadia. Through the eyes of the young protagonist, Amir, the actor takes us on a heartbreaking journey of friendship and betrayal in a society of severe class division. Students will meet upwards of eight characters, each fully realized by this virtuosic performer. Surrounded by a pre and post show interactive discussion, the audience will explore themes including redemption and class systems. Adapted and directed by Wynn Handman

Connect to your First Nations unit with this percussion performance from acclaimed Jeunesses Musicales Canada and inspired by the legends of several North American First Nations. After the Flood, Great Turtle washes up on the only speck of land spared by the waters. Suddenly, a voice calls out: the island’s proud Totem Tree tells Great Turtle he has been chosen to rebuild the world destroyed by the storms. His greatest challenge is ensuring that balance and harmony reign over the cacophony and pollution. Despite the enormity of the task, Great Turtle tries to create a better world, a world filled with music.

Extravagant sets and costumes don the stage for the State Ballet Theatre of Russia’s production of The Nutcracker. Delight your students with this full-scale ballet that brings the beloved story to life. Students can connect what they see on stage with the creative process not only in viewing dance, but discussing cultural connections to the traditional story, costume designs and set interpretations. The State Ballet Theatre of Russia will be sure to engage your students and introduce them to the power of ballet. This performance will be the full length ballet with a question and answer period during intermission.

Kinobe shares songs and stories from his homeland that will help to enrich students’ understanding of African music and culture. Ask about our outreach workshops associated with this performance.

Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for the Playing for Change project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite the human race. The Playing for Change Band is sure to inspire your students as it brings together musicians from all walks of life, from around the globe, united in purpose on one stage.
