Teacher WorkshopsTeacher Workshops at the Living Arts Centre provide a unique opportunity for teachers to explore the arts in an environment dedicated to the study, practice and presentation of the visual and performing arts. Hands-on workshops are curriculum connected and provide practical applications that can be easily implemented in the classroom and are intended for non specialist teachers of grades 3-8. Teacher Professional Development SessionsBook a teacher professional development workshop with your colleagues after school in our professionally equipped studios. Choose from a variety of 2 hour workshops to compliment your curriculum or work with us to create a specific workshop to meet your classroom needs. Have an enjoyable afternoon with a unique arts experience! Teachers will receive handouts including lesson plans as well as suggested grade adaptations. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of Screen Printing and artists such as Andy Warhol in contemporary media studies. Teachers will have the opportunity to create their own prints. Teachers will also learn how the elements of art are used to visually communicate messages to their audience. The Windows of Art: Seeing, Understanding and Communicating (2 hours) A great compliment to learning the new Visual Art curriculum, this workshop will provide teachers with the tools to help focus student thinking when looking at, talking about and making art works. By learning to use the framework “The Windows of Art” (Subjective, Structural, Cultural and Contemporary), to help focus thinking, teachers at all levels of art understanding will gain a unique skill set to discuss and critique art with their students. “The Windows of Art” can be adapted to suit various age levels, is unique, cross curricular and can help teachers to assess student work in more objective ways. Creative Carbon Footprint (2 hours) In this hands-on workshop, teachers will learn how to get their students to think critically about the world around them through visual art. Using the photographic artwork of contemporary artist, Chris Jordan, teachers will find creative ways to explore environmental sustainability with their students. Media Studies through Reader’s Theatre (2 hours) Participants will gain a working knowledge of Drama and how their voices, facial expressions and hand gestures are used to interpret characters in scripts or stories.
