Choose from the following five one-hour dance workshops to create a workshop package that best suits your students' interests:

LINE DANCE (Gr. K – 4)
Younger students will get a great introduction to dance by learning age appropriate line dancing techniques in this one hour workshop. Be amazed at the skill level of each of your students by the end of this workshop!

HIP HOP (Gr. 4 – 10)
Hip Hop, a cultural movement that began in New York, has become very popular around the world. This workshop, set to current R&B and Pop music, explores the choreography your students can’t get enough of.

BOLLYWOOD (Gr. 6- 10) NEW!
Celebrate the uplifting music and dance of Bollywood, the popular term for India’s film industry. Students will learn exciting Bollywood dance which fuses Indian and Western dance forms.

LATIN (Gr. 6 - 10)
Explore the unique rhythms and style of Salsa dancing while learning about an element of Latin American culture. Your students have seen it on popular television shows like “Dancing with the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance?”; challenge them to discover Latin dancing at your school!

AFRICAN (Gr. 6 - 10)
Learn to release and control athletic movements as we cross the floor to traditional West African drumming. The workshop will end with a collective performance where grouped students showcase the West African movements they have learned during the workshop collaborated with movements from other genres they are familiar with.

All workshops listed above are one hour in length.

Please note that you must select a minimum of two workshops.
A maximum of four workshops can be booked in a day.

Maximum 60 students per workshop.

Workshops will take place at your school. A school gymnasium area required, preferably with a stage or platform from where the Centre’s instructor can demonstrate dance techniques.
The Living Arts Centre will provide all music and sound equipment.

Celebrate Black History Month with Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa. Featuring traditional African instruments and music – koras, kalimbas, adungus, endongos, ngonis and drums – that blend with guitars and keyboards, this show draws on influences from around the globe.

Workshops at your school
February 14th – 17th | 2011 Grades K - 12
The Living Arts Centre is partnering with Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa to bring specialized workshops celebrating African music and culture to your school. From Uganda, Kinobe has worked with students across Africa, Europe, and Canada, giving workshops on the various instruments and traditions of African music. Choose a workshop with a focus on Ugandan drumming, dancing and/or singing and storytelling.

Drumming & Storytelling (1hr)
Available in French or English, in this workshop, Kinobe will teach your students about various Ugandan drumming
techniques, traditional African instruments and the stories and traditions behind them.

Dance & Drumming (1hr)
Learn the rhythm and beats that inform traditional African drumming and dance with your students in a hands-on dance
and drumming workshop with one of the members of Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa.

Singing & Storytelling (1hr)
Ugandan music is a vibrant synthesis of song, dance, drumming, poetry and fable. In this workshop, your students will learn the songs and stories of Uganda with one of the members of Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa.
