Living Arts Centre

Open Mic LIVE – Hosting Opportunity

DEADLINE: August 25, 2018

The Open Mic LIVE program presented by the Living Arts Centre (LAC) in partnership with the Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is searching high and low for a new Host!

We are looking for a performing artist with exceptional hosting skills to make Open Mic LIVE the place to be once a month at the Living Arts Centre.

Taking place in our LIVE restaurant from October to June, this program offers a platform for local artists - from hobbyists to emerging artists to showcase their talents in a comfortable and welcoming environment.  The program is open to performing artists 16 years of age and older from vocalists to stand-up comics.  It’s a chance for first-timers as well as seasoned performers to step onto the stage in front of a live and supportive audience.

We are committed to promoting local talent and growing this program to its fullest potential so our Open Mic LIVE Host will play a key role in making each evening an enjoyable, entertaining, and memorable experience for our artists and patrons alike.

As the Open Mic LIVE Host, you will perform when needed throughout the evening (i.e. as guests are arriving).  You will deliver opening remarks, and introduce each of the artists before they go on stage.  You will keep the line-up of artists moving smoothly with the help of LAC and MAC staff and ensure the flow of the evening is positive, upbeat and lively.  When you are not in your formal hosting role, you will work with LAC staff to curate the line-up of artists each month.  You will also be an ambassador for the program – promoting the show to local artists and encouraging them to perform with us.  You will share upcoming show information through your networks and continue to build the profile for this exciting event.

What we are looking for:

  • You are a professional performing artist yourself with a minimum of five years of performing experience behind you and still love performing every chance you get.
  • You are comfortable and able to engage a family audience to get the evening started and keep the energy going for the full evening.
  • You are active on social media – Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • You are able to make a commitment for one evening a month from October to June from approximately 5 pm – 10 pm. In addition, you would be required to host the Best of Open Mic Live event in the Fall that concludes the program for the year.
  • You have access to a computer and email for ongoing correspondence and planning for each month.
  • You are able to work well with an extended team and independently to get the work done.
  • Preference will be given to those who have and can set up their own equipment (lights, a soundboard, mics, and speakers).

If you think you could be the next Open Mic LIVE Host, please email your CV and relevant links (website and/or videos) to  Claudia Di Pietro, Programme Coordinator at the Living Arts Centre by August 25, 2018.

Candidates selected will be notified by email and invited to audition in-person at the Living Arts Centre in on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at 6 pm.

This is a paid opportunity.  Artist fee to be discussed with potential candidates.
