Adult Volunteers

Front of House Volunteer

As a member of the Front of House Team, Volunteers greet, direct, and seat patrons, monitor theatre entrances, assist patrons with special needs, prepare and distribute programs and count ticket stubs. Front of House Volunteers provide the “red carpet” treatment to our theatre patrons, and are integral to our promise of superior customer service and excellence in programming.

Minimum commitment: Twelve (12) hours per month and twelve months of service.
Recruitment for this position occurs year round.

Information Officer

The Information Desk is an important hub of the Living Arts Centre and a focal point during events. Information Officers help direct guests, answer questions and provide visitors with a warm welcome and exceptional customer service.

Minimum Commitment: Twelve (12) hours per month and six months of service.
Recruitment for this position occurs as openings become available.

Gallery Attendant

While in our Gallery, volunteers attend to the space, interact with school groups, answer inquiries and provide information to patrons about the current exhibition.

Minimum Commitment: Three (3) hours per week and six months of service.

Outreach Ambassador

Outreach Ambassadors man the portable Marketing Booth during off-site events or performances at the Centre helping to promote the LAC and its programming. Outreach Ambassadors also assist with office administration.

Minimum commitment: Six (6) hours per month and twelve months of service.

Reception Attendant

Reception Attendants provide excellent customer service assisting patrons both on the telephone and in-person in our Gift Shop. Volunteers assist with gift shop upkeep, maintain a working knowledge of the artwork sold, operate a cash register, and assist with inventory control.

Minimum commitment: Three (3) hours per week and six months of service.

Youth Volunteers

Youth ages 15-18 can assist with our Front of House, Camps, Weekend Courses and Special Events Team. Complete your Community Service hours working with the public or children while having tonnes of fun!

Youth Meet & Greet Officer

Meet and Greet Officers are the warm, inviting personalities who welcome visitors and patrons upon entering the Living Arts Centre. Meet and Greet officers help direct guests and answer any questions regarding the Centre and events. A working knowledge of the facility is required. This position works closely with the Front of House staff and Ushers to provide excellent customer service.

Minimum commitment: Four (4) hours per month, from September to June.
Recruitment for this position occurs year round.

Community Course Studio Assistant

As a member of the Community Course Team, Studio Assistants help support instructors with programs for children ages 2.5 – 12years.

Tasks will include:

  • Assisting instructors with studio set-up and clean-up
  • Assist with program activities and execution
  • Help to provide supervision for children 

Time Commitment: 2-8 hours each Saturday or Sunday for 8-10 weeks,

Approximate Hours: 20 – 60 hours per session 

Fall Session: Saturdays & Sundays from September 22nd – November 17th; Application deadline July 13th, 2018.
Winter Session: Saturdays & Sundays from January 12th – March 2nd; Application deadline October 29th, 2018.
Spring Session: Saturdays & Sundays from April 25th – June 22ndApplication deadline March 4th, 2018.

PLAY Project Set & Prop Design:

As a member of the Community Course Team, set and prop designers will help build the scene for the PLAY Project’s production.

Tasks include:

  • Creating and building sets, props, and displays
  • Ensure that working area is clean and maintained
  • Assist during the performances as stage hands by moving sets and props into place 

Time Commitment: 3 hours on Saturdays

Approximate Hours: 30 – 50 hours (more if March Break is included) 

Fall Session: Saturdays from September 22nd – December 15th; Application deadline July 13th, 2018.
Winter Session: Saturdays from January 12th – March 2nd/March break; Application deadline October 29th, 2018.
Spring Session: Saturdays from March 23rd – May 4thApplication deadline March 4th, 2018.

 

Camps Assistant

As a member of our camps volunteer team, volunteers assist instructors with programs for children ages 5-14 years.

Tasks will include:

  • Assisting instructors with studio set-up and clean-up
  • Assist with program activities and execution
  • Help to provide supervision for children

 

Time Commitment: 1 week (40 hours) for March and Winter Break Camps and 2 weeks for Summer Camp (80 Hours).

Winter Break: January 2nd – 4th, 2019; Application deadline October 26th, 2018.
March Break: March 11th – 15th, 2019; Application deadline January 21st, 2019.
Summer Camp: July 2nd – August 31st, 2019; Application deadline May 6th, 2019.

Events and Projects Assistant

As a member of our Special Events & Projects Volunteer Team, volunteers will be asked to facilitate and assist with various events and activities throughout the year.

Minimum commitment: 2 events per year
