How to Submit an Exhibition Proposal

Our gallery’s mandate is to support the growth of emerging and mid-career artists and craftspeople from Mississauga, and surrounding regions. Each year, the gallery presents six exhibitions featuring work from artist collectives, organizations, and groups of 3 or more.

Selected artists will work the LAC’s curator in developing their exhibition for our space.

The LAC’s gallery’s admission is free. All are welcome.

Call for Exhibition Proposals

Deadline: January 25, 2019

The Living Arts Centre Gallery is currently accepting exhibition proposals for the 2019 – 2020 season. Our Gallery hosts contemporary art and craft exhibitions, with a focus on emerging and mid-career artists from Mississauga and surrounding regions. The exhibition program seeks submissions from diverse art and craft practices including works in; 2D, 3D, interdisciplinary, digital, interactive, and time- based media.

The Curator accepts submissions from collectives, arts organizations or groups of three or more. Exhibition proposals should have contemporary relevance.

Individual artists may apply to be considered for group exhibitions organized by the Curator, but we do not accept submissions for solo exhibitions.

Exhibitions typically run from 5 to 7 weeks.

Exhibition proposals must include:

• Exhibition description (400 words max.)
• Artist statement (200 words max. for each artist)
• Organization profile (if applicable) (250 words)
• List of participating artists
• Artist CVs for each participant
• 10 digital images of proposed or representative works (jpeg only). Maximum 150KB per image
• Time-based work should be submitted via a link
• Image list indicating artist name, title, medium, date, brief description

Deadline: January 25, 2019

The gallery accepts proposals on an ongoing basis; however the deadline for consideration during the 2019-20 season is January 25, 2019. Please note that the schedule for September 2019 to August 2020 will be finalized in the first quarter of 2019.

The Living Arts Centre provides exhibitors with the following services for a nominal fee of $500 + HST:
• Curatorial guidance regarding; art selection/ presentation, thematic clarification, and exhibition descriptions
• Complete exhibition services; including installation, lighting, and deinstallation
• Exhibition invitation design, printing and distribution in print and digital
• Press Release production and distribution and social media posts
• Gallery Attendants during gallery hours
• Insurance of works while on site
• Scheduling and operations of an opening reception.*

*Gallery exhibitors are responsible for covering the costs of the opening reception. LIVE Cuisine, the Centre's on-site restaurant, is the exclusive caterer.
